Interestingly, Anais had a very traumatic childhood - her father left the family very young leaving them in poverty and if the unexpurgated diary entries published after her death are true, he was a narcissist who returned later in life to pursue an affair with her. I don't know, but I have the sense, that she really considered art to be holy, healing work and it helped her heal her inner child and keep going.

I agree with you though - I really love the insights in her quotes and the beauty of how she saw the world :)
