The Missing Step in Healing Trauma
In Western culture, we’ve developed a number of ways to uncover trauma and pain- but we often miss a crucial step in the healing process
Yesterday, I took the final step in my journey of becoming a certified breathwork facilitator and turned in my final essay, describing what I had learned from over 80 session hours and 8-months of intensive study.
I chose to write about a topic that has transformed not only my approach to breathwork, but to self-care and healing generally. It’s a concept that I feel is often forgotten or misunderstood in trauma healing: In order to heal trauma and reset the nervous system, you first have to learn to feel good and expand your capacity for pleasure.
To explain what I mean, let me first take a detour to explain a bit about breathwork and how it heals a nervous system impacted by trauma.
